Product Overview
These radios can be fitted into a wide range of motor vehicles, telemetry outstations or used as fixed operation despatch terminals. They are ideal for transport, utilities and public safety applications.
TM8100 series radios are built on Tait's extremely flexible TM8000 platform, which has at its core an advanced Digital Signal Processor (DSP). This allows much of the radio signal processing to take place in the digital domain, providing these benefits:
Safe long term investment that can be adapted to meet changing business needs
Easy customization with minimum additional hardware
Access to an expanding range of functionality with minimum additional investment
Low-cost route to data services
Easier addition of radios to fleets
Improved message clarity - fewer repeated messages.
All radios built on the TM8000 platform have been designed to incorporate three key strengths: ruggedness, high speed data transmission and ease of integration.
Ruggedness
TM8000 series radios are designed to cope with the harshest of environments. They operate over a wide temperature range from -30°C to +60°C, and the main radio unit is housed within a strong diecast metal chassis.
Sealed to meet the water and dust ingress standard of IP54, TM8100 series radios have also passed a number of MIL-STD-810 tests - stringent specifications prescribed by the US military.
All radios on the TM8000 series platform offer outstanding RF performance and a number of innovative features such as thermal shutdown and stable power turndown, to ensure product durability.
High Speed Data
TM8000 series radios incorporate a 1200 baud FFSK data modem as standard, and a high speed modem can be fitted which provides an over-the-air rate of up to 19200 bits per second.
System integrators can also easily connect external high speed modems via a robust D-range connector.
Digital processing optimizes RF performance for both built-in and external modems, optimizing the integrity of the data. A transmitter rise time of under 10ms and very low group delay also help integrators with external high speed data applications.
High speed data on the TM8255 dual mode radio is currently available through an external modem.
Ease of Integration
TM8000 series radios set a new standard regarding ease of integration and ability to customize.
These radios are fitted with an auxiliary connector to capture many of the radio interface signals, and another connector port is provided on the options area lid. This options area allows integrators to create a large interface board, protected by the shell of the radio.
Tait has created 3DK Developer's Kits to help system integrators develop hardware interfaces to TM8000 series products. The kits also help those wanting to fit a microprocessor board into the options area, and can also be used to provide additional functionality to the radios.
Ease of integration enables TM8000 series radios to be more simply and cost-effectively adapted to provide the optimal solution for businesses, today and in the future.
